To Sleep: Perchance to Dream

Most nights I find myself wound up so tight that I have a hard time sleeping. A nice cocktail or glass of wine (or 3) is just what the doctor ordered to let some air out of my tires before I go to bed. A little liquid yoga. But then the sugar metabolizes (or whatever) and I am wide awake at 3AM. I've tried the OTC sleeping aides but then I can't get myself awake for 3 days afterwards. I've used melatonin once (or, more accurately, misused it), and it gave me horrid dreams about tornados and axes (so I gave the bottle to my ex-husband.)

I am asking the question.... How do YOU unwind after a long day of wife-ing, working and mommy-ing?

Do you do resort to this?
Or this?

Or this?

Or this?
or something else? What works for you?

(Jamie feel free to answer even though we already know on especially rough days you have confessed your cure is liquid yoga. I guess the grape doesn't fall far from the vine.)

Well, first I stay up until I am good and tired. I usually get into bed around midnight. No later then that, is my rule. I usually follow it.

I would say try doing mindless work.... I clean up around the house, do dishes, fold a little laundry.... and I watch some thing dumb on tv.

I'd say give your brain some time to do some thing relaxing. Don't do bills or your work.

And if all else fails.... go into the doctors.

And with the over the counter sleep meds.... take 1/2 a dose. That should eliminate the fog the next day or three.

Yes wine is my friend. I don't know if it's the wine, or the WHINE that wakes me up at 3. But with a husband, two kids, and a dog in bed with me by 3 ... I'm thinking of taking to the kids rooms for some real sleep.

Yawn.

P.S. Jenn, the cake was grand!

There's not a night that I can't sleep. My head its the pillow and I am out for the count. Maybe its from not sleeping for about 4 years. For now, I enjoy my sleep - I hope it continues! A class of wine heare and there makes me just extra sleepy!!! =)

Hi there coming from Melissa's blog.

Anyway, I have sleep issues, and my only solution is to have the Food Network on quietly in the background and then read the paper. Light goes off when I get sleepy, and the tv turns itself off after I've fallen asleep.

Oh, and I discovered that if I wake up in the middle of the night, I need to take a drink of something to go back to sleep.

Good luck....

I'm with Jenn...my computer!! If I need to relax, I just turn it on and....well...if I have a beer or glass of wine, that always helps, too!!
REading before I go to sleep always helps...I am never without one or two books on the floor beside me (yes, we sleep in futons here!!)...depending on what kind of mood I'm in when I climb in!!

"yoga in a bottle"....really?? May have to Google that one 'cause it might be something I would use!!
